TWU Working Women’s Committee

The TWU Working Women’s Committee met in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on July 21–22, 2026, hosted by Local 514.

Day One – July 21, 2026
The first day began with a presentation by Sheriff Gonzalez, who spoke on the critical issue of senior abuse. The session focused on identifying warning signs, understanding the various forms of abuse, and emphasizing the importance of vigilance and advocacy for vulnerable seniors.

Next we participated in an inspiring presentation by Habitat for Humanity. This session highlighted the organization’s mission and provided insight into how TWU members can actively support community-building efforts through volunteerism and outreach initiatives.

After lunch, Penny Patton, Financial Advisor, delivered an informative session on financial wellness. Her presentation focused on understanding and managing 401(k) plans, offering practical guidance to help members make informed decisions about their retirement planning and financial futures.

Day Two – July 22, 2026
The second day featured a personal safety demonstration led by Julie Robertson of Damsels in Distress. This highly informative session taught situational awareness and practical self-defense strategies, equipping attendees with tools to enhance their personal safety.

The committee also visited the Dream Center, a facility dedicated to supporting individuals and families in need. During the visit, the WWC donated a truckload of shoes to support the organization’s mission. We were given a tour of the facility, gaining a deeper appreciation for the impactful work being carried out to serve the less fortunate.

We also had a candlelight vigil in honor of President Amy Griffin of Amtrak, Local 1460 a valued member of the committee who recently passed away. This opportunity for reflection and remembrance of her contributions and dedication was very emotional.

The Meeting Concluded with New Cochairs being appointed for the next 2 years We all left with A renewed commitment to advocacy, safety, financial empowerment, and service to others.
