Short Term Disability

Good afternoon,

There was a small group of members who kept the Transamerica Short Term Disability when UBP took over the plans back in 2008.  Because of AA no longer payroll deducting voluntary benefits and that policy is not portable, the affected members need to convert to the Hartford Short Term Disability plan.

UBP plans to send the following to those members by the end of next week:

We want to make you aware of a change to the way your premiums for voluntary benefits sponsored by the Transport Workers Union will be handled. Previously, your premiums for TWU-sponsored voluntary benefits were deducted from your paycheck. You are receiving this email because you have a Transamerica Short Term Disability policy.  Payroll deductions for your TWU-sponsored voluntary benefit ended beginning January 1, 2020. The Transamerica disability policy does not allow for portability. All members who were on a Transamerica policy will now be converted to the group Hartford policy effective March 1, 2020.

In order to maintain Short Term Disability coverage sponsored by the TWU, please convert your premium deduction method from your current payroll to direct deposit. To avoid any lapse in coverage, Union Benefit Planners will need to collect payment information no later than March 15, 2020. Visit www.twuaaunionbenefits.com to review your voluntary benefits and learn more about providing your alternate payment method.

Attached is important information that contain the steps to follow to continue your coverage.  If you do nothing, the coverage will end.  Again, if you do nothing, you will no longer continue STD.

*Please do not put your personal banking information on the form; if you need assistance with the account information or if you have any questions about the new way to pay for TWU-sponsored voluntary benefits, please call Union Benefit Planners at 866-386-6060. Support will be available 9 a.m.-5 p.m. ET.
